Journey Onward….Beware Ulysses

The Suvarnabhumi (literally the Golden Land) Airport is a really a Temple of Consumerism. Name the brand, and you have it. While the airport concourse in Yamrica is barely stocked with a decent food joint or bookshop, the Thai counterpart is overflowing with designer goods, perfumes, restaurants, bars, tobacco….it is almost as if you forget that you have a plane to catch. The marketing strategy apparently works as nearly everyone boards the connecting flight with those transparent bags that seem to say – Look what I bought!! It is almost as if they are the sirens seeking to trap Ulysses…quick bring out the blind-folds!

As you can see from the pictures, the Manthan (Churning) scene is quite apt given the pull and push that weary travellers experience in Suvarnabhumi!
